Colony Counts

Survey data from the wading bird colony on Bird Island (Jane Isle) in Lake Jesup . Members of the Seminole Audubon Society have conducted the surveys. The colony is identified in the Florida Atlas of Breeding Sites for Herons and Allies as colony 612110.

The surveys have been conducted with binoculars from a pontoon boat situated approximately 50-75 meters from shore. Darrell Leidigh has graciously made the pontoon boat available to us. The counts include only birds that are visible from the boat, many are missed due to thick vegetation.
