BASIC BIRDING

Four-session beginning birding course for birders of all ages will be offered in January and February. Each session includes classroom and field experience. In partnership with Seminole County Natural Lands Program. Details and Registration call Shirley 407 977-4389.

Dates and Times for 2013

Our 4-Session beginning bird-watching course will be offered:

•   January 8, 10, 15, 17
     Tues./Thurs. 1:00-4:00 pm
     Field Trip Thurs. 1/15 to  
     Merritt Island National W.R.

•   January 12, 19, 20, 26
    Sat. Mornings 9:00 am - noon
    Field Trip Sun. 1/20 


Session I

Highlights:

·        Attract birds to your yard through the use of plants, feeders, and nest boxes.

·        You will learn about bird watching tools including binoculars, field guides, audio, video, computer guides and journals.

Bring binoculars if you have them.

A short walk to view birds will follow the class.

Session II

Highlights:

·        This segment will include the parts of a bird, silhouettes, and flight patterns.

·        Bird Identification techniques.

·        Learn how to look at a bird.

Bird watching practice will follow the class.

Session III Field trip

Highlights:

·        We will car-pool for this half-day trip.

·        Practice what we have learned at one of the most popular birding spots in the area.

·        Shorebirds, wading birds, and hopefully roseate spoonbills.

Most viewing will be done from vehicles.

Session IV

Highlights:

·        Review any problem areas.

·         Practice identification session with audio and visual aids.
