Basic Birding


Seminole Audubon Society will offer an individual class on back- yard birds in addition to our 4-session beginning bird-watching course. These classes are provided in cooperation with Seminole County Natural Lands Program. Classes will be held at the Ed Yarborough Nature Center, Geneva Wilderness Area- 3501 County Rd. 426, Geneva, FL 32732

Back Yard Birds

Cost: $5.00
Ever wonder what bird that is visiting your yard? Eating at your feeder? Drinking and bathing at your bird bath? This class will teach basic methods of bird identification. We will focus on frequently seen species.

Birding Basics

Our 4-Session beginning bird-watching course for birders of all ages will be offered in January 2016.  Each session includes classroom and field experience.

Session I


   Attract birds to your yard through the use of plants, feeders, and nest boxes.

   You will learn about bird watching tools including binoculars, field guides, audio, video, computer guides and journals.

Bring binoculars if you have them.

A short walk to view birds will follow the class.

Session II


        This segment will include the parts of a bird, silhouettes, and flight patterns.

        Bird Identification techniques.

        Learn how to look at a bird.

Bird watching practice will follow the class.

Session III Field Trip to Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge


        We will car-pool for this half-day trip.

        Practice what we have learned at one of the most popular birding spots in the area.

        Shorebirds, wading birds, and hopefully roseate spoonbills.

Most viewing will be done from vehicles.

Session IV


        Review any problem areas.

         Practice identification session with audio and visual aids.
